A scheme to deliver eight new bungalows, designed specifically for older people or those with mobility issues, has now completed in Goldthorpe, Barnsley.
The redevelopment on Beever Street consists of seven 2-bed bungalows and one 3-bed bungalow, and provides level access to the front and back doors, driveways to the front of the dwellings, open plan living/kitchen/dining areas and wet rooms, while being close to local shops and amenities.
NPS Barnsley delivered the project through its joint venture agreement with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, and provided architectural design, M&E, principle designer, quantity surveying and structural engineering services.
Built to ‘Secured by Design’ standards to help make the area a safer place to live, the homes replace 19 terraced properties and deliver a wider housing choice in the area. High insulation levels, double glazed windows and efficient heating systems will help tenants manage energy costs and reduce the risk of fuel poverty, while the wider neighbourhood will benefit from increased off-road parking, reduced housing density and an improved street scene.
The project was handed over to the council earlier this month.
