A sensitive restoration project by NPS Group to transform a rundown potting shed into a pet crematorium has been shortlisted in the South Yorkshire and Humber LABC Awards 2019.
Set within the grounds of Cannon Hall Park, the service allows users to scatter their pet’s ashes within the idyllic grounds of the park or place a memorial plaque. The renovation, delivered by our Barnsley office, has also provided a sustainable income stream whilst saving the building from demolition, and has been shortlisted for the Best Community Building Award.
The sensitive design saw many original materials reused, such as the external stone walls, stone roof tiles and narrow slot windows, helping to minimise waste being taken off site. Surplus stone was left in the gardeners compound to be used around the grounds as required.
The project has been well received within the local area and the Bereavement Services Team has received many enquiries about the services offered.
Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on 19 June.
