An HLF funded Parks for People project to refurbish the mid - Victorian Cliffe Castle Park in Keighley has been awarded Best Public Services Building at the West Yorkshire LABC Awards 2018. NPS multidisciplinary teams from both Humber and Leeds were involved in the project.
Works included the restoration of buildings and the reinstatement of key historic park features and planting. A new building accommodates a café, aviary, animal house and glass-house with a replica of the original Messenger style cast iron Palm House as a centre piece.
Park wide restoration works included external features such as urns, steps and terraces, twin marble fountains, the Victorian fish pool and the implementation of a park furniture and interpretation strategy and planting designs for the music terrace and upper terrace. The scheme reconnects the house with its garden and reveals the original design intent enabling visitors to learn about the heritage of this significant Gentleman’s residence.
