Exemplary staff shortlisted for WICE Awards 2018

Three NPS employees are among the most exemplary women in the industry, having been shortlisted for the European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards 2018.

 

Amelia Hawkins is in the running for Best Woman Interior Designer. Since joining NPS four years ago, Amelia has become one of the most valued and respected members of her team. Her methodical and diligent approach means project deadlines are always kept on track and any issues are dealt with complete professionalism. Through her work ethic, calm approach and ability to work under pressure, Amelia has gained the highest level of trust from both colleagues and clients.

 

Sarah Lewis is shortlisted for Best Woman in Environmental and Sustainability. Sarah joined Hamson Barron Smith, our specialist interdisciplinary design consultancy, in 2014 and made an immediate impact with her passion and drive for sustainable development. She is a Certified European Passivhaus designer and published author of the RIBA's PHPP Illustrated: A Designers Guide to the Passive House Planning Package (second edition released in 2017). Her exemplary knowledge has inspired the Group to fully embrace Passivhaus and the benefits it delivers.

 

Indi Wickramarachch is a finalist for Best Woman Electrical & Mechanical Engineer. Indi is an innovative and creative electrical design engineer with over 20 years’ experience. Her tireless drive to achieve the best solutions, design and value earns the respect of her colleagues, and she comfortably delivers any challenging projects. Indi has a reputation for high quality work and when the team received over £2m worth of projects, the client specially requested her service.

 

Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9 per cent of UK engineering professionals are women. The aim of the awards is to create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, while encouraging companies to employ and train more women in these industries. Winners will be announced in May.
