A charity shop with a difference has opened its doors in Castle Mall, Norwich thanks to help from our in-house design team, TEN Creative.
New U, run by the OPEN Youth Trust and Talent Match New Anglia, works on a system of vouchers, donations, swapping and loans. The shop aims to support young adults (16-30) into work by lending them ‘smart’ clothing for interviews and other occasions. It also creates opportunities for people to gain experience in retail by offering work placements in a friendly and supportive environment.
TEN Creative provided pro-bono services to help the project get off the ground, which is the first of its kind in Norfolk. Tasked with creating a visual identity for the shop that evokes community spirit, the team created a bold icon that symbolises a person entering the shop unhappy and leaving happy. A modern, striking, gender neutral colour palette was chosen, and a pattern was designed to support the brand while utilising both positive and negative space. The dot pattern portrays the coming together of people and the negative space in-between creates stars, a subtle portrayal of the shop’s purpose.
A representative for OPEN, said: “We loved working with you guys on this project – you made is so easy and seamless and you really understood what we were trying to achieve and the outcome was just want we wanted. Thank you!”
