Our 92-seat café scheme for Tropical World, situated in Roundhay Park, Leeds, was successfully completed to a tight timescale and ready for a busy Easter holiday period.
Improvements at the family attraction, which is run by Leeds City Council, included the design of a new conservatory café and the refurbishment of existing toilet facilities.
The new conservatory café links the existing small café and the shop whilst forming a larger café seating area with views across the gardens – overcoming the challenge of linking existing buildings with internal steps and varying floor levels. The new toilet block links off the shop and offers baby changing facilities along with standard toilet provision.
The interior concept for the café was to bring the ‘outside inside’. We achieved this by designing a large open dining space, incorporating a wrap around curtain wall glazing with large sliding doors out onto a patio area. The floor finishes have been selected to mimic the adjacent external floor finishes giving a free flowing experience from inside to outside.
