Landscape design

Our landscape architects design and create high quality outdoor spaces that enhance the public realm. We have proven expertise at all levels, from site masterplanning to small scale detailing. This capability is available as part of larger integrated architectural design schemes, and also for individual bespoke projects.

Our past projects have included landscape design for estate improvement, new housing, schools, playgrounds, public open spaces, parks, industrial sites, dockland rehabilitation, and highway infrastructure.

Our approach is to unlock a site’s potential by balancing inspirational cutting-edge design elements with the circulation and service needs of the local environment. We do this by involving the users and stakeholders in a collaborative process, to produce an outcome that is customer-focused and appropriate to the setting. Our designers are able to use specialist engineering resources from across the Group to provide complete in-house solutions from conception to implementation on site.

We have a wide knowledge of hard landscape design (fencing, paving, walls, lighting, and outdoor furniture), and close links to suppliers of the latest innovative products.  Our horticultural skills allow us to specify planting schemes that harmonise with their surroundings and will flourish in a given microclimate with minimal maintenance. We combine these elements into sustainable designs that reflect our desire to produce a positive impact on the environment.

Our approach

Dealing with works completed on a sensitive site

NPS was instructed to provide a two-classroom extension. However, the site was possibly one of the most complicated NPS has had to deal with.

Restoring a fire damaged school in a conservation area

When Parracombe Primary School suffered extensive fire damage NPS was on hand to provide expert advice.

Finding permanent disabled access solutions

Working closely with English Heritage and conservation officials we found a permanent solution for disabled access at Hull’s Guild Hall.

Collaborative streetscape design

We collaborated with many stakeholders in the design of a streetscape in Ulverston, featuring a statue of Laurel & Hardy.
