NPS was commissioned to undertake the relocation of a Grade II listed Police Box from its base at Bishopgarth on West Field Road in Wakefield, to West Yorkshire Police’s brand new Carr Gate training complex.
Similar to the model used by the time-travelling Doctor Who in the popular BBC television series, the box is said to date from the 1920s or 1930s.
The NPS Works, Planning and Delivery team in Barnsley were commissioned by Interserve to undertake the work on their behalf.
Without knowing the full condition of its timber construction it was decided that the best way to move the box was to manufacture a metal frame and to bolt under the box, ensuring that all the weight was still being carried on its base. The frame work allowed the team to lift and transport the box without twisting or putting any extra strain on the wooden structure.
The training complex which was completed in March houses a K-9 unit and training facilities for new officers.
